Book of Life

If your life was a book, and you the author, what would that book look like?

A tattered notebook, cover worn with love or lack of attention?  A functional A4 block with protective cover, giving nothing away?  A lever arch file – too full of everything to even close properly?  Size and shape of no consequence, but the cover lovingly plastered with pictures?  Something totally different?  What then?  Simple sheets of paper, held together by luck and a tired paperclip?

And inside, what there?  Have you written much at all?  The odd word, a few sentences, or poetry and prose so powerful, so beautiful, you lock them away, half afraid of your own creation?  What have you chosen to write with?  A pen – inked in forever, there for all to see?  A pencil – easily erased, and believed gone….  Except for the impression haunting the pages to come.  Black and white?  Shades of grey or all colours imaginable?  Have you used words to paint your pictures, or are the pictures there and the words mere suggestions?

It’s your book, your life, what have you chosen to make of it?

My life is a scrapbook – powerful snapshots in time – sometimes held down with sticky-tape, sometimes not held down at all, drifting to the spine, and fluttering all over the place every time the book is opened.

Most of the words and pictures are wrought from pure emotion held together sometimes by the flimsiest of logic and sanity. I write best when my emotions are at their fiercest. For instance, on the recent death of a friend’s friend:
“We only knew him a little, but we know how much you both meant to each other. Loving friendship transcends the passing of a partner and companion, and never dies as long as the memories remain in the heart and the love is entwined within your soul.”

Raw emotion can be a very effective creative force. It generally is for me too.
