When you take the proverbial leap of faith, where exactly are you leaping? In who, or what, are you placing that faith?
Your god or some other higher being? “Please God let me pass my exam, I’ll study next time.”
A friend or even complete stranger? “Well someone will do something about it. They have to, it’s shocking.”
An inanimate object, a thing? Money even? “I just need another thousand or so, that’ll sort things out.”
Fate itself? “It’ll work out, there’s no other option.”
What is it that stops us all too often, from placing that faith in ourselves, from believing that we can?
Where are you laying the responsibility to deliver, and is it fair?
We’re not born that way – if we were, many of us would still be crawling. And yet we’re not. We took that chance, that leap – leaps even – of faith in ourselves…… Stood up……. Wobbled….. Fell over…… and got back up until finally we took that first step. Second. Third, faster, faster. Failure didn’t feature as an option. So what changed? When did we stop doing it right? When did we stop making it happen?
How many of us ever reach full potential? I would love to claim that prize, but no, I’m one of the many. What stops us? What would happen if we did? We already know what’s happens if we don’t – life, just as we know it. I’m wondering if perhaps we aren’t a little bit afraid, a little bit in awe of exactly what we could achieve, would achieve, if we really believed in ourselves and just did it. I’m happy being able to walk, being able to talk, but what other natural gifts and talents have been suppressed?
What don’t I do, what don’t you do because we’ve misplaced that faith we should be saving for ourselves?
Whatever you think you are, you are always more than that – let your stumbling blocks be stepping stones. No one ever said everything had to be perfect every time. Our natural creativity gives us options – new things to do, new ways to do the same things – life would be very dull without variety. All we need is that little bit of something that whispers “Go for it!” so seductively that’s it’s impossible to ignore. The good news is this – we all have that whisper, that voice inside of us. All it needs to be heard, by each of us, for each us.
Get out of your way, leap, and be awesome
