If there were no limits, no expectations by others, no need to fit in…… What would you be?
If there were no rules, no regulations, no constraints…… What would you do?
If there was no guilt, no greed, no wall in the way…… What would you have?
If only there were no good reasons not to…….
So what are those reasons, those good reasons that are apparently holding you back, keeping you locked in?
Are they really that good? In fact are they even real?
For a moment, imagine life, imagine yourself, without all of those reasons. As if you could be anything, do everything, and have all of it. Just imagine. What would you see, that you don’t see now? What would you hear? And what would you feel, when you do? Go for it! Even just for a minute, see all of it, hear it and feel it, right now.
Good, isn’t it?
In NLP we have the “As if” frame. In simple terms this means pretending something is real so that we can explore possibilities; try on a situation in a safe environment; identify resources; even learn a bit thanks to some creative guesswork.
Go ahead. Imagine already having achieved something you’ve been striving for, something important to you. Big or small. Now, already having achieved it, what do you notice? What do you see? What do you hear? What do you feel? Where do you feel what you feel? How do you know? Got it… Good Oh, and now that’s you’ve done it already, look back and notice how you got there. What did you do? What steps and actions did you take? What resources did you use? And now that you know all of that, what stops you? That’s right! Nothing stopped you
A great creative problem solving technique too. Who knows how much more you will achieve knowing you have already done so. And if you think I’ve lost my way just a bit….
Who has seen an athlete mentally rehearsing the jump or the shot or the leap before they do it?
There’s a reason for that. Mental rehearsal works.
Almost everything is easier the second time round, when you know what you’re doing and what works.
When you make that “As if”, that mental rehearsal, real enough, it’s as if you have already achieved it. Your mind literally does not know that it was an imagined event. Put in all the details. And well, if I’ve scored that goal once before, I can do it again.
What would it be like if you could do it all, be it all, have it all… Right now!
